Lush Cosmetics Decides To Detach Itself From Social Media Accounts!
Over the years, concerns about mental health have been increased, especially amidst the pandemic. However, even when people are open about it, it is being ignored, like the serious effects of climate change.
Speaking of mental health, social media platforms are one of the main reasons mental health has become a serious issue, considering the increase in cyberbullying, trolling, etc.
Thus, keeping this in mind, Lush Cosmetics has decided to move away from social media, a decision that many are seeing as odd yet bold.
In a press release, Lush Cosmetics said it would be disconnecting itself from social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Tiktok until these platforms provide a much safer environment to the users. However, it will continue to operate on YouTube and Twitter.
Well, for a brand that has over 4M followers on Instagram and whose majority of the audience is online, it indeed is a really bold move.
It’s not new that off lately, social media channels have been impacting an individual’s mental health negatively. Even after several cases of online abuse and trolling, people are still attached to these platforms because these channels are addictive.
To this, Lush’s co-founder Mark Constantine said, “As an inventor of bath bombs, I pour all my efforts into creating products that help people switch off, relax and pay attention to their wellbeing,” Jack Constantine, the chief digital officer, and product inventor at Lush, said in the statement.
He even added, “Social media platforms have become the antithesis of this aim, with algorithms designed to keep people scrolling and stop them from switching off and relaxing.”
”I’ve spent all my life avoiding putting harmful ingredients in my products. There is now overwhelming evidence we are being put at risk when using social media, I’m not willing to expose my customers to this harm, so it’s time to take it out of the mix.”
After releasing such bold statements and deciding to detach the company from social media, Lush Cosmetics has sure made it big to the news.
Further, it is even expected that the company will be staying offline for over a year now despite the huge losses that it will have to incur from leaving these social media platforms.
Moreover, while many of them were disheartened after knowing this decision, others came in to support this move by Lush Cosmetics.
By this, we can surely say that over the years, brands’ perspective has changed a lot towards their customers and overall business. Where initially they only aimed for-profits, now they even aim to consider their target audiences’ needs, wants, and yes, mental well-being!
